Finance and Budgeting
To keep a check on your finances and to ensure that you are not getting into difficulty by spending money you don’t have, it is important that you are able to carry out bank reconciliations. Put simply this involves keeping a personal record of everything you spend, and regularly comparing it to your bank statements to make sure that everything adds up.
This will prevent you from having the awkward situation of looking at your bank balance, thinking you have plenty of spare cash, going out and spending it, then realizing that a cheque hasn’t cleared or a direct debit hasn’t gone out, and subsequently going overdrawn or incurring bank charges.
The monthly expenditure template is another useful resource to plan your expenditure for the month.
Remember it is not how much money you make per month but how much you spend that determines your surplus or deficit at the end of the month, and you have control of your spending! If you do have a regular surplus at the end of each month perhaps you are interested in some form of investment.
