Welcome to IRUPA

IRPA

The International Rugby Players’ Association was founded in 2001. It was formed to promote the views of players on an international level, offering them a collective voice. Through working with the IRB and its Member Unions, IRPA aims to insure measures are introduced to enhance the safety, welfare & employment conditions of full-time professional rugby players worldwide. IRPA believes that through the consultative process with the IRB and its member unions it can help the IRB in carrying out its stated objectives.

The founding members are the RUPA (Australia), the PRA (England), the NZRPA, the SARPA (South Africa) and PROVALE (France). In November 2003 IRUPA (Ireland) and WRPA (Wales) became members with full voting rights. In February 2006 SPRA (Scotland) also became members.

The objectives of the association are

  • to promote the economic, social and employment interests of its Members.
  • to provide the representative voice of all professional and/or international rugby players on issues of importance to the international game.
  • to represent the interests of the members before the International Rugby Board and Rugby World Cup or any other relevant organization.
  • to encourage the exchange of ideas and best practice between the Members to enable them to achieve their individual objectives.
